Durham Highway Volunteer Fire Department Giving Back

What do red firetrucks, awesome firefighters and a dalmation named Angus have to do with Breast Cancer?  Well for starters, the Durham Highway Fire Department recently held a charity Car Wash to benefit the 1in9 Foundation.  A wonderful day–complete with firefighters washing everything including a dump truck, hotdogs & tours of the station helped make the event a great success!
With the monies raised that day, the DHFD decided to adopt a 1in9 patient and assist her with some of her basic necessities like gas, groceries and personal care items.  “The Department’s gift has made a tremendous impact on this patient,”   said Stephanie Beguelin, Founder of 1in9. “With caring community partners like the DHFD, we are able to Give Back to those in need. We truly can’t thank them enough!”

Looking for that Perfect Holiday Gift?

Many have asked how to help or get involved with 1in9. One way you might consider is adopting a family for the holidays. Families in the area touched by breast cancer and facing financial crisis will not be able to enjoy the Holiday Season festivities as most of us traditionally do, whether it is providing gifts for the young ones, gathering with friends and family for a holiday meal, or just having the peace of mind that everyone in the house is safe and healthy.
By adopting a 1in9 family, you will be able to bring a little bit of joy to the season. If your office, church, community group or family is looking to share the Holiday Spirit in its true sense, let 1in9 connect you with a family in need, by emailing Kevin@1in9.com. You’ll be amazed at the impact you can make, it will be a memorable and rewarding experience.

It Takes a Village

It Takes a Village

It Takes a Village

As 1in9 approaches our one year anniversary – we reflect on our year of experiences & triumphs. Every week, 1in9 met new ladies and these women shared stories of their unique medical, family & financial situations. Each of our 1in9 ladies have ONE thing in common… each one inspires & compels us to continue 1in9’s mission. One example involves one of our first clients, and now a friend, Ronda…..

One year ago, Ronda’s diagnosis of breast cancer came unexpectedly. She was married with a young baby boy. Both she and her husband had stable jobs with medical insurance. But the months following Ronda’s diagnosis became a whirlwind of chemotherapy treatments & side effects followed by a double mastectomy. Shortly into treatment, her medical insurance capped – resulting in a mountain of medical bills – which made the cost of everyday needs unaffordable.
