Stephanie’s Journey: Chemotherapy Treatment #4

At last, Stephanie completed her 4th, and final chemotherapy treatment. It was a long 12 week process, but it was always more bearable due to the gracious staff at the UNC Cancer Center.

On the final morning of treatment, Stephanie and her “entourage” of Eric, Gretchen and Betsy checked in at UNC, with cameras rolling! Steph was cheerful as usual…. radiating her “Pink Aura” everywhere she goes. Many friendships were formed during her infusion treatments and each special staff member was greeted with a hug. The 4th infusion went smoothly and she had no undesirable side effects. In addition, it was her quickest chemotherapy of all! We literally breathed a sigh of relief as we left the infusion unit for the final time. And as an extra bonus, Stephanie was awarded a Purple Heart certificate for her completed infusion treatments!

It was a long bumpy road…. but graduation day finally arrived! After undergoing a double mastectomy, Stephanie was prescribed 4 chemotherapy treatments, each 3 weeks apart. This 12 week period was a roller coaster ride for Stephanie with some bad days, but thankfully, mostly good days…

On December 29, Stephanie continued her breast cancer journey during her third chemotherapy treatment. Typically, patients say this is the most difficult treatment, as the cumulative effects of chemo tend to catch up with the patient.
