Members of Team 1in9 During the Komen Race for the Cure
In January, 1in9 decided to set a goal for the Komen 5k Race for the Cure. We wanted to make a BIG impact at the race – but what was a reasonable goal? Recruiting a 1in9 Team of 100 or 200 members? Then we had an idea: organize a team of 500. It seemed completely crazy – but we immediately loved the idea…
1in9 reached our goal of 500 only days prior to the race! It wasn’t an easy task but it was worth the effort when Team 1in9 was together for the first time for the team photo. Wow! We made a statement by sheer numbers and how could you miss the 500 bright green 1in9 shirts!
Race day was a huge success! Not only did we reached our goal of 500, Team 1in9 was the LARGEST TEAM at Komen, as well as the SECOND GREATEST FUNDRAISER!

Our 1in9 t-shirts were envied by many, not to mention our 200 1in9 flags! We even sponsored a “Cool Off” Station at mile 2.5 on Clark Avenue (thanks to homeowners Kari & John Baldwin)! The Whispering Grizzlies Indian Princess Tribe squirted everyone with water as they passed through our pink balloon arches (that’s more than 20,000 people)! Our pink posters, pink trachcans, pompoms & bubbles added to the 1in9 pink experience!

The Komen 5k was a day filled with emotion and camaraderie – but for us at 1in9 it was more….
- We learned we can set lofty (seemingly crazy) goals and achieve them. No mountain is too high!
- We experienced the excitement of the Race for the Cure and were touched by its energy and spirit.
- We witnessed Stephanie and hundreds of Survivors tackle the challenge of a 5K Race… and win!
