Throughout this crazy journey, we have been so blessed – family here to help whenever we need, friends to help with the kids, and our Church family beside us to continuously pray. I don’t think that we could have made it without so many of you—and we want to say Thank You. Thank You from the bottom of our hearts…
And as I say thank you, I want to share a story of one very special young lady who has been a tremendous champion not only for me, but for 1in9. Devin Tomlin is the 14 year-old daughter of my very good friend, Christa. Devin is a straight-A student, an awesome athlete and a teenager that has an innate desire to help others.
Devin has been a volunteer for Kiwanis Builders Club, and has taken part in Hoops For Hearts for the American Heart Association for the past three years. She volunteers at the Raleigh Homeless Shelter and took part in an event to raise awareness for starving children in third-world countries by fasting for 30 hours!! But now, she has decided to take on a new challenge and help spread the word and raise monies for 1in9. She ran in the Krispy Kreme Challenge (along with her mom) and decided to ask for people to sponsor her ~ unprompted by anyone ~ for the race. She raised $300.00 and she donated it to the 1in9 Foundation.
On Sunday, May 1, Devin has also planned a “CRUSH CANCER COOKOUT” to benefit 1in9. The event is complete with food, a bounce house, giveaways, prizes—and she has done all of this because she wants to help—and wants to make a difference. I am so proud of her and am grateful that she is willing to offer her time and energy to help women suffering from breast cancer and that are in need if support.
Thank you, Devin…You are an amazing young lady and I hope that my children are blessed with the gift of selflessness like you…
I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.
